TBILISI TRADITIONS

The capital of Georgia – Tbilisi, is the ancient multicultural city. Here you will be captivated by a thrilling blend of eastern enigma and western elegance. The traditions of the East and West meet here to form a culture unlike any other in the world. During the tour we take you to the places that will show you old city. You can take a glance to the history of the city from early centuries to nowadays by walking in narrow streets of the city and exploring the religious and secular architecture. You will visit underground small wine-cellar and try famous Georgian wines-as Georgia has 8000 year old wine history and is considered to be the homeland of wine. Afterwards we have a lunch with Georgian cuisine at a local café.

MTSKHETA – RELIGIOUS CENTRE OF GEORGIA

Visit the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia – Mtskheta (3000 years old) and see UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Jvari church (6th c.) and Svetiskhoveli Cathedral (11th c.) where the Robe of Christ is buried. Today we’ll also visit antique ruins of Mtskheta city.

ALONG THE GREAT SILK ROAD

GEORGIAN WINE & DINE

Georgia has 8000 year old wine history and only here you can meet more than 500 species of vines. We drive to Eastern Georgia, which is famous for its wine production. First we’ll visit a farmer who will show us how “Qvevri” is made. “Qvevri” is used to keep wine under the ground. Then we visit Gremi Architectural complex and see the Royal citadel, museum (closed on Mondays) and church of archangels.
Feeling hungry? Now we will take you to another farmer’s house where you will see how traditional bread is baked and famous Georgian “Mtsvadi” is made. The delicious lunch will be accompanied by homemade wine and brandy; honey will be served as desert. Here we get acquainted to Georgian tradition of Toast Mastering “Tamada”, as our table will be led by him. Continue and visit old unique winery, where you will find out more about Georgian the Georgian “Qvevri” way of wine making method (inscribed in UNESCO intangible cultural heritage), quite different from the European one. You will drink typical Georgian wine straight from the clay jars by the oldest traditional vessel for drinking. Now you are ready to relax and enjoy walking in romantic town Sighnaghi. It is a museum town from 18th century with multicolored wooden balconies and offers visitors stunning views of the surrounding Caucasus Mountains. Return to Tbilisi.

We travel to Kakheti, the famous wine-growing region, acknowledge traditions and culture, taste wines and delicious food. We visit Gremi Complex (16th c.) with stunning background of the Great Caucasus. Drive to Kvareli to visit winery and taste Georgian wines. THE GREAT CAUCASUS

Travel to the virgin nature of the highest mountain chain in the Europe. Pass famous Military Highway, visit Ananuri architectural complex (17th c., features one of the best carvings of the Christian art) and arrive at Stepantsminda. You’ll see Gergeti Trinity church (14th c.) located at 2170m in front of one of the highest and most beautiful mountain of the Caucasus range Mt. Kazbegi (5047m).

Ladies require scarves in the Georgian orthodox churches, sometimes skirts too, but they can find some in the entrances.

Short trousers are forbidden in the church.

You can bring along: sun cream, hat, rain – and wind coats, etc.

For some program points comfortable shoes are needed.
