I just finished my “Heartsaver First Aid AED course” from American Heart Association with a very professional trainer Mr. Reghel (Thank you).

While it is still fresh in my mind I wanted to share it with you guys. The most interesting part of the course for me was the AED. I was amazed of this medical equipment that I am not aware that it exist and available in all the public places here in UAE, like Metro station, malls and schools. By using AED together with high quality CPR we can give a higher chance of saving one’s life!

CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation – which most of us are familiar with. However, combining CPR & AED is a very new thing to me. I am really glad that I was in this training.

Ok let’s now talk about what AED stands for, take note it is not Dirham 🙂

AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator it is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrest in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation or by reviving the proper heart beat, the application of electrical therapy which correct the rhythm of the heart. Isn’t amazing! While waiting for the ambulance to arrive we can do something effective in restoring patient’s heart signal.

AED is a very portable device and friendly user, all the instructions are being provided thru simple audio and visual commands once you turned it on, so that anyone even without training can use it. It is better of course that someone with proper training will use it, but if no other trained person is present in the scene, anyone who can read and follow simple instruction can use this device and provide a big chance to save life.

Awareness can save life, so please if you don’t have a first aid training yet it is very useful to attend or other option is use the power of internet for first aid awareness and on how to use the AED.

Keep well 🙂
